Happiness is painting on the ground.

Artistic approach

When I started painting 40 years ago, I quickly discovered what interested me in painting. I can sum up my approach and my journey as a painter in these few words: immensity of nature, colors, light, contrasts, depth and audacity. I have always loved painting the splendor of landscapes. It is for this reason that I have painted and continue to paint large paintings in order to show how big nature is and how small we humans are. Over the years, I have come to understand why, in my paintings, my characters are always small and a bit lost in the landscape.

My second discovery was color. I define myself as a colorist painter and all these years of work have only confirmed the importance it occupies in my painting. Color also allowed me to discover light and contrasts because they are what bring out the light. Unlike many painters, I don't care much about the direction of the light and I focus more on the contrasts and harmonies of colors that will bring out the light.

I am a painter who likes to work "on the ground" and more particularly in the beautiful region of Charlevoix. I've been going there regularly for over 40 years, especially in the fall when the colors are at their best. The mountains, the particular light of Charlevoix, its winding roads and its typical houses made me discover another facet in my painting, the study of depth and plans. This concern for depth forced me to study chromatic perspective which allows me to give the impression of successive planes on a canvas which only has two dimensions: height and width.

I have always painted to please myself and to set myself new challenges with each painting. I now accept more to take risks and to dare as well in the choice of my subjects, the color, the format and the tools used.

My dream today is exactly the same as it was 40 years ago: to somehow combine figurative and abstract art. After 40 years, I still don't know how and that's why I tirelessly continue this search hoping, one day, to have the answer and stop living with my eternal dissatisfaction knowing very well that the perfect painting does not exist. even if we work very hard.
