When I started painting, I had the choice of several mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolor, dry pastel, oil pastel, ink, charcoal, etc. What to choose and why? I decided to try them all. Without knowing what I wanted to do in painting, however, I quickly discovered that painting in nature was what I liked the most. On the other hand, working on the pattern has several characteristics and the climatic conditions must be taken into consideration.
I tried first, watercolor. This technique is based on water control. The technical difficulties quickly appeared: the whiteness of the paper to be kept for the light, the variable drying time depending on the sun and the humidity, the quality of the paper and the tools, etc. I quickly realized that everything was too complicated for me and I had no pleasure in working like this.
I then tried acrylic. I found that the advantages of this medium can also be in some cases disadvantages: the fast drying time, even very fast if there is sun, the work in successive layers, the impastos are difficult and the colors darken during drying. All these difficulties convinced me to move on. So I was left with the oil paint. Like acrylic, the drying time of oil can also be a drawback. Personally, I liked the fact that the oil took a while to dry because it allowed me to come back and paste without the paint drying too quickly. After all these years, I still believe that this medium sticks to my skin. I get dirty all the time, but I like...
And you, what medium do you use?
